On July 4, deputies responded to a home on Sandra Lane to serve an outstanding order for arrest on Dylan Lee Gates, 23, of Lincolnton, after receiving information that he was present at the residence.
Deputies were let into the home by the property owner. While inside, deputies observed multiple items of drug paraphernalia, suspected narcotics, and a handgun in plain view within Gates’ bedroom.
Gates, a convicted felon and documented member of the Folk Nation gang — as confirmed by the Department of Corrections– is prohibited from possessing firearms.
During the search, deputies seized 2.8 grams of fentanyl, 94.5 grams of methamphetamine, two handguns, $135 in U.S. currency, a digital scale, small ziplock baggies and a blue duffle bag containing 81 THC disposables.
As a result, warrants were issued for Gates on multiple felony charges, including:
Gates remained at large for approximately a month before he was located, and deputies initiated a traffic stop. Gates fled on foot but was arrested after a brief pursuit.
At the time of the July 29 arrest, Gates had seven unserved warrants involving 11 felony charges.
An empty holster was found on the driver’s seat, and a strong odor of marijuana was present in the vehicle.
Also inside the vehicle was a female passenger and a child.
The report states that a handgun, an AR-15 rifle, and a lower receiver assembly for an AR-15 were located near the child, along with additional drug paraphernalia.
DSS Child Protective Services was immediately notified and responded to the scene.
Gates received a $110,000 bond for the outstanding orders for arrest. He was additionally charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Felon and was held without bond due to being on pre-trial release at the time of the incident.
