The ceremony, held at the UIC Rockford campus, is a traditional event that signifies the beginning of the students’ journey to becoming doctors. Students from the Midwest and across the country received their white coats, symbolizing their commitment to the field of medicine.
“It’s a complex journey. It takes many years. But it’s exciting. They will learn so much. They’ll grow so much. And four years from now, we’ll be having a discussion at the Coronado Theater as they go forward with their graduation,” said Regional Dean Dr. Alex Stagnaro-Green.
This year’s cohort of 58 students includes individuals from various parts of the Midwest as well as other regions of the United States.
The event underscores the shared path that all medical students embark upon, regardless of their background or origin. The white coat serves as a symbol of the responsibilities and ethical standards that come with the medical profession.
