Chicago police said the incident unfolded just before 8:30 p.m. in the 100 block of East 79th Street, in Greater Grand Crossing.
According to police, the incident began after a 71-year-old man allegedly attempted to cross the street outside of a crosswalk in the area.
Officers said an eastbound white sedan, driven by a 23-year-old man who had the right of way, then struck the 71-year-old while he was in the roadway.
While attempting to evade the man in the road, officers said the sedan driver then crashed into a nearby CTA bus that was traveling in the same direction.
The man struck in the road was injured in the crash and later hospitalized in good condition.
Officers said the driver of the bus, a 27-year-old woman, sustained trauma during the crash and was also hospitalized in good condition.
Additionally, four people who were on the bus at the time were taken to the hospital, where they were listed in good condition.
Officers say no citations have been issued.
