Pursuit suspect dragged from car following high-speed chase in Los Angeles

California Highway Patrol officers had to pull a pursuit suspect out of their car after the driver led them on a high-speed chase through Los Angeles County early Friday morning.

The incident began around 5:15 a.m. as authorities tried to pull over a vehicle for making an illegal U-turn, but the driver refused to yield, a CHP spokesperson confirmed to KTLA.

The suspect then took the 101 Freeway northbound toward Ventura County before changing directions and returning to the San Fernando Valley.

Sky5 was over the scene around 5:45 a.m. as the driver was traveling at speeds around 100 mph. The unidentified suspect later transitioned to the southbound 405 Freeway before exiting onto city streets at Sepulveda Boulevard.

Reduced visibility through the Sepulveda Pass temporarily caused Sky5 to lose track of the chase, but the vehicle was spotted again on the 10 Freeway.

The driver then exited that freeway at La Cienega Boulevard just before 6 a.m. and came to a stop when the sedan drove onto a sidewalk.

The suspect’s door opened temporarily, but the driver then closed the door and remained inside the vehicle.

CHP vehicles surrounded the car, and officers were seen with guns drawn as they waited for the driver to exit.

It appeared that non-lethal rounds were fired into the back window of the vehicle. Officers behind a shield then approached the car and pulled the suspect out through the driver’s side door.

The unidentified suspect was dragged to the ground and taken into custody.
