Over $50K awarded to North Alabama schools, organizations from TVA Robotics Awards

NORTH ALABAMA (WHNT) — The Tennessee Valley Authority announced Friday that both schools and non-profit organizations received funds to create new robotics programs or enhance existing ones.

All 22 of the Alabama recipients are from North Alabama. In total, the Alabama recipients were awarded $55,000. You can see a full list of the Alabama award recipients below:

Colbert County

  • Colbert Heights Elementary School- awarded $2,500

  • Leighton Elementary Robotics- awarded $2,500
  • Muscle Shoals Middle School- awarded $2,500
  • Muscle Shoals High School- awarded $5,000

Lauderdale County

  • Central High School- awarded $2,500
  • Forest Hill Elementary School- awarded $2,500
  • Kilby Elementary School- awarded $2,500
  • Riverhill School- awarded $2,500
  • Shoals Christian School- awarded $2,500

Lawrence County

  • East Lawrence Elementary School- $5,000

Limestone County

  • Athens Renaissance School- awarded $2,500
  • Sage Education Foundation- awarded $2,500
  • Skyrockets at Blue Springs Elementary School- $5,000

Madison County

  • Mae Jemison High School First Robotics- awarded $2,500
  • Say Watt Robotics- awarded $2,500

Marshall County

  • Arab Junior High School- awarded $2,500

Morgan County

  • Hartselle Junior High School- awarded $2,500
  • Hartselle Intermediate School- awarded $2,500
  • Hartselle High School- awarded $2,500

TVA, in partnership with Bicentennial Volunteers Inc., a TVA retiree organization, is investing in youth through the new TVA Robotics Award Program in addition to the TVA STEM classroom awards program that began in 2015.

The authority said, in contrast with the STEM awards, robotics awards are only available to official robotics programs and are to be used to help cover costs associated with robotics teams and/or competition.

Applications opened on April 1 and were reviewed from May 15 to July 25. According to TVA’s website, 169 schools and/or non-profit organizations received awards.
