GRANVILLE, W.Va. (WTRF) — A Virginia man accused of exposing himself to women at several retail stores in West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania has turned himself in, authorities say.
Ohio County Sheriff Nelson Croft told 12 News’ Wheeling affiliate, WTRF, that 42-year-old Robert Edward Smith Jr., of Centreville, Virginia, surrendered at the Granville Police Department on Friday and posted a $75,000 bond.
Sheriff Nelson said that other charges are pending in other jurisdictions.
A warrant for Smith was issued in Granville on Tuesday after he allegedly exposed himself to a young girl at the town’s Walmart location and continued his spree at other stores in Monongalia County, including T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, and Target.
Officers said on Tuesday that Smith’s spree also ranged across multiple states, saying that sightings of him had been reported in Cambridge, and St. Clairsville, Ohio, South Strabane, Pennsylvania, and Triadelphia, West Virginia, all on the same day.
Croft said Detective Major Doug Ernest worked the case alongside other agencies. In some instances, witnesses or victims were able to capture photos of the suspect, which aided the investigation.
The investigation remains active across multiple locations. 12 News has reached out to the Granville Police Department for comment, but has yet to hear back.
