
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers officers received a report of a person shot in the 8400 block of Meadowlark Drive at 1:38 a.m.
Officers arrived to find a man lying in the street with a gunshot wound. Emergency Medical Services went to check on the man and pronounced him dead at the scene.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office identified him as 25-year-old Paul Vincent Thompson III and ruled his death a homicide.
Officers searched the area for evidence to indicate if the shooting occurred at the scene or if the crime occurred somewhere else. Officers located a shell casing on scene that led them to believe the shooting occurred at the location.
Officers spoke to neighbors for more information. A few neighbors told police they heard a car driving away at a high rate of speed earlier in the evening.
IMPD believes there is no threat to the community and was looking for doorbell camera footage to help detectives figure out what happened.
