The Dr. James DeLee and Catherine Puerta DeLee Endowed Scholarship was created through a gift that university officials say will benefit students for generations by reducing financial barriers and helping them pursue academic and career goals.
Dr. DeLee, who began his career at LSUA in 1975, served as a faculty member, dean, and interim chancellor before retiring in 1990. Known for his leadership and dedication to the LSUA community, he and his family lived on campus during the 1970s, strengthening their ties to students and faculty.
“Dr. DeLee exemplified the very best of LSUA,” Chancellor Paul Coreil said. “He was a visionary educator, a devoted mentor, and a generous community leader. This endowed scholarship continues his legacy and reflects the DeLee family’s unwavering belief in the power of education.”
Together, James and Catherine DeLee raised three children while contributing significantly to LSUA’s growth and the wider Central Louisiana region.
The endowed scholarship will provide ongoing financial assistance to deserving students, with the goal of expanding educational access and opportunities.
More information about the scholarship or ways to contribute is available at lsuafoundation.org or by contacting the LSUA Foundation at 318-619-2916.
