On Friday, Aug. 15, KDOL released its July jobs report. According to the report, the government jobs sector saw a decrease of 5,000 jobs in the month of July. So far in 2025, Kansas has lost 1,800 government jobs. The decrease in government jobs resulted in a net loss of jobs in the nonfarm sector.
According to the report’s Economist Overview, federal government jobs have been on the decline in Kansas since December 2024. While federal government jobs are on the decline, Kansas has added 2,300 state and local government jobs over the last 12 months.
KDOL reports that civilian jobs took a smaller hit in July. The civilian labor force lost 385 jobs despite a year-over-year increase of 3,893 jobs.
