Congressman Moore discusses ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ on district tour

MORGANTON, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Republican Congressman Tim Moore is back in his district this week and made stops in Morganton and Dallas Thursday afternoon.

Part of the tour highlighted positive impacts made by the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” a bill that opponents argue does far more harm than good.

Moore started his day with a visit to Table Rock Pharmacy, where he met with owners to discuss combating high prices driven by Pharmacy Benefit Managers. Moore told Queen City News he is cosponsoring legislation to cut out unnecessary costs.

“There are patients who need access to health care, need to be able to get their medications, and we need to pass good laws that allow that to happen,” said Moore.

His tour through the district comes about a month after Congress passed a budget bill backed by the president. In an interview with Chief Political Correspondent Andy Weber, Moore downplayed opposition that claimed the bill would take Medicaid away from qualified Americans.

“The only people who will lose Medicaid coverage are people who are here illegally. People who are able-bodied, someone who is young, able-bodied, no disability, able to work and then those who have committed fraud in securing benefits,” said Moore.

The bill had also faced pushback from Republican NC Sen. Thom Tillis, Moore’s predecessor at the General Assembly. Tillis had argued rural hospitals would be forced to close with the way the legislation was written, but Moore insisted changes were made in the final version to prevent such a situation.

“I will say that Senator Tillis, his criticisms that he made, particularly early on, are key to why the bill was improved eventually, on the coverage issues that were addressed,” said Moore.
