6th earthquake of 2025 recorded about 30 miles from Asheville

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The U.S. Geological Survey has picked up the third small earthquake in less than two weeks in western North Carolina.

The 2.7 magnitude earthquake happened near Columbus, about 30 miles southeast of Asheville around 11:14 a.m.

There have been no reports of people feeling this small quake.

This comes after 2.0 and 2.1 magnitude earthquakes were recorded earlier this month. Those took place 6 miles from Rosman in Transylvania County, near Lake Toxaway and south of Wolf Ridge.
