19-year-old struck, killed while walking in Fairfax County

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — A 19-year-old died after they were hit by a car while walking in Lincolnia earlier this month.

Minutes after midnight, around 12:20 a.m. on Aug. 1, officers with the Fairfax County Police Department responded to a crash involving a pedestrian near the Little River Turnpike and Beauregard Street.

An investigation determined that the driver of a 2003 Lincoln Town Car was traveling on the turnpike when they struck the 19-year-old.

The pedestrian, Angel Benito Matom Velasco, 19, of Alexandria, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and later died.

The driver of the car was not hurt in the crash and stayed at the scene.

Fairfax County investigators said alcohol and speed did not appear to be factors in the crash, but the circumstances surrounding the crash are still being investigated.

Detectives are looking to speak to anyone who may have more details about the collision. To call the police department’s crash Reconstruction Unit at 703-280-0543. Tips can also be submitted online.
