ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Galvan’s Grocery was nearly forced to close its doors, but there’s now light at the end of the tunnel. For more than a month, a bridge closure stalled traffic and kept customers away. Today, with construction complete, the familiar sound of the door chime is back.
The bridge over Catclaw Creek on North 12th Street was closed for repairs after a hole appeared in the road. For Mrs. Galvan, who has owned the neighborhood grocery store for 48 years, the slowdown was devastating.
Normally, North 12th bustles with midday traffic, but during the closure, the street went silent. Now that cars are flowing again, Galvan says business is picking up, and so is her spirit.
“I’m happy… I needed my business back. I’ve been here so long that I really missed it,” Galvan shared.
