“A strike is imminent,” a spokesperson with Teamsters Local 222 told ABC4.com Thursday morning.
The collective bargaining agreement between Meadow Gold Dairy and the Teamsters expired on May 1, 2025. Since the contract’s expiration, negotiations have taken place but have not led to an agreement.
Dairy Teamsters in Salt Lake City hit the picket lines on April 24, 2025, ahead of the contract’s expiration. Workers picketed as part of a nationwide demonstration in support of 2,000 workers at the dairy co-op, Dairy Farmers of America, of which Meadow Gold Dairy is a subsidiary.
Thursday is day three of the current contract negotiations, the spokesperson told ABC4.com. A decision is expected to be made Thursday afternoon.
Should an agreement not be reached, Teamsters say the effects will be widespread. “This will affect customers.”
School lunches in Utah will likely not be affected as many have switched to other dairy providers, according to the spokesperson.
ABC4.com contacted Meadow Gold Dairy who declined to comment.
