SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A Salt Lake City woman is accused of repeatedly crashing into another woman’s vehicle during a road rage incident. The victim had honked at the suspect for nearly hitting her in a roundabout, documents say.
Karolyn Diana Kimsey, 41, has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, one count of reckless endangerment, and two counts of failing to remain at an accident involving property damage, all with a road rage enhancement. She is also facing misdemeanors for driving on a suspended license.
According to court documents, on June 25, 2025, a Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) officer was contacted about a collision. When the officer arrived, he saw a vehicle with front and rear end damage.
The driver of the vehicle told the officer that she and her son were travelling in the vehicle and were involved in two crashes with the same vehicle. The first collision occurred in a roundabout near Glenrose Drive.
While driving through the roundabout, a vehicle nearly hit her car, the victim reported. She honked at the vehicle and continued driving, but said that the suspect — later identified as Kimsey — then pulled behind her and began “rear-ending her repeatedly.”
After turning onto California Avenue, Kimsey tried to flee and drive away from the victim. The victim stated that she began following Kimsey in an attempt to get a picture of her license plate. Allegedly, when Kimsey noticed, she braked suddenly, causing the victim to crash into her rear bumper.
After the second collision, Kimsey was reportedly able to get away from the victim. The victim provided the license plate number to police, who found that she had a suspended license and was an alcohol restricted driver. The SLCPD officer showed the victim a photo of Kimsey, and she confirmed that she was the aggressive driver.
SLCPD went to Kimsey’s residence to impound the vehicle, which is a policy “requiring impoundment for hit-and-run road rage incidents,” according to documents. When they knocked on the residence’s door, they heard a woman yell, “My mom’s not home,” while closing all doors and windows.
When the tow truck arrived, the woman opened the window, and police identified her as Kimsey. She allegedly “banged on the window and made obscene gestures toward officers and the tow truck driver,” but refused to speak with police.
Kimsey was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on Aug. 12 for violating her probation conditions by allegedly committing a crime. She is also being held on a no-bail warrant for this road rage incident.
