Rapides Parish inmate’s escape attempt thwarted
LIBUSE, La. (WNTZ) – An inmate assigned to a work crew attempted to escape Tuesday morning but was captured within minutes, according to the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the escape attempt happened around 6:56 a.m. as the crew was reporting for duty at the Police Jury compound on Esler Field Road near Libuse Cutoff.

Corrections deputies and a K-9 unit quickly tracked the inmate into nearby woods and apprehended him within about seven minutes, authorities said. Patrol deputies also responded to the area.

The inmate, whose name was not immediately released, was returned to custody and transported to the Rapides Parish Detention Cente
