The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office identified the crash victim as 16-year-old Alina Safi.
Safi died after multiple vehicles collided on Ygnacio Valley Road east of Oak Grove Road at 4:40 p.m. Saturday, according to police.
Safi, the driver of one of the vehicles, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Four more injured victims, including a juvenile, were transported to hospitals.
A GoFundMe page states that Safi was known for her “radiant smile, her respectful nature, and her dream of building a future that would make her family proud. Even at a young age, she embodied patience, generosity, and gratitude.”
The girl’s parents and siblings are grieving an “immense loss,” her family wrote.
The page continues, “Her passing is a reminder that life is a temporary journey and that we are all destined to return to our Lord.”
Mt. Diablo High School Principal Markell McCain sent a message to the school community. McCain wrote, “Alina was a valued and vibrant member of our school, and her loss is felt deeply by students, staff, and families alike. During this incredibly difficult time, we want to extend our heartfelt condolences to Alina’s family and loved ones.”
