Driver who led Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office on vehicle chase was having a medical emergency

Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s deputies said a driver who struck a number of road signs and led them on a chase was suffering from a medical emergency.

According to the sheriff’s office, a driver was reported to have been driving erratically, striking multiple road signs before continuing onto eastbound Highway 12 around 5:10 a.m.

Deputies said they attempted to stop the vehicle, but after it began to slow down, the vehicle began to accelerate.

The sheriff’s office said the car continually crossed the centerline, fog line, onto the shoulder of the highway, and at times was driving into the westbound lanes of the highway.

As the vehicle slowed to 20 miles per hour, deputies said they attempted to perform a PIT maneuver on the vehicle, but were unsuccessful in stopping the car.

However, the driver did bring their vehicle to a stop on their own.

Deputies said the driver did not initially comply with verbal commands after the vehicle stopped, and later discovered the driver was experiencing a medical emergency.

The driver was taken to the hospital for treatment; it is unknown at this time what the medical emergency was.
