BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The Baton Rouge Rougarou have made history, capturing their first-ever championship title, and they’re sharing the victory with the fans who cheered them on all season.
On Wednesday morning, the summer baseball team traded the baseball diamond for the drive-thru window, serving meals and smiles at Raising Cane’s “Mothership” on Highland Road. Players greeted customers, signed autographs, and relived the unforgettable moments from their championship game.
“It’s about making this community bigger and stronger as one,” said head coach Stephen Klein. “We’ve never had it done before, and now we’re starting a trend.”
The celebration brought together players, fans, and Louisiana sports royalty. Legendary LSU baseball coach Skip Bertman joined the festivities, offering Klein advice during the championship game against Victoria, a moment Klein said he’ll never forget.
For utility player Taylor Walters, the win was about brotherhood.
“It’s rare to get a group like this,” Walters said. “A lot of us are from here, and we wanted to play and win for each other. You don’t see that on summer teams.”
Klein credited the team’s faith and trust in each other as the driving force behind their historic season.
“I believed we could do something that was never done,” he said. “All I needed was each player to have 100% trust in me because I had 100% trust in them.”
Founded in 2018, the Rougarou’s championship marks a new chapter for the franchise, and judging by the crowd of fans at Raising Cane’s, the city of Baton Rouge is ready to rally behind them for seasons to come.
