CARPENTERSVILLE, Ill. — An investigation is underway in northwest suburban Carpentersville on Thursday morning after three people were injured in a shooting overnight.

According to Carpentersville police, the incident unfolded in the 1200 block of Navajo Drive on Wednesday evening.

Officers said four people were sitting in a parked vehicle in the area when two people approached and a confrontation ensued.

Officers said amid the altercation, the two people pulled out guns and opened fire, striking three of the four people inside the car.

Following the shooting, the gunmen fled the scene.

After the shooting, the driver of the vehicle attempted to take the victims to the hospital while a passenger called 911. Officers then caught up with the vehicle at the intersection of Randall Road and Broadsmore Drive in Algonquin.

After finding the victims, officers began administering life-saving measures before they were taken to the hospital.

Officers said two of the victims were treated and released, while a third remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Carpentersville police detectives are investigating the shooting and say they are working to follow up on several leads.

Based on information gathered at the scene, officers said they believe the incident was isolated and there is no threat to the public.

“Our hearts go out to the victims and their families affected by last night’s senseless act of violence,” Carpentersville Police Deputy Chief Kevin Stankowitz said.

It is currently unclear what led to the gunfire.
