That’s when the next primary elections are scheduled. But elections officials are recruiting poll workers many months in advance.
Poll workers can be on the clock for long work days — Election Day, of course. The preceding week, polls are open for early voting and need to be staffed.
Poll workers are paid $250 per day and can be hired to work every day of early voting and Election Day.
“We’re always in need of more election workers,” says Barry Jackson, director of the Washington County Board of Elections. “We are always open to more applicants. It’s a long day, and Election Day, of course, goes from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.”
New poll workers have to sign up for a training class, but those who enroll are paid $50 to do so.
