The crash happened at Forrest Hills Road and Pleasant Valley Boulevard when the semi-truck could not stop in time for the grey car, Winnebago County Lieutenant Mike Weber reported.
The truck that was damaged collided with the other two vehicles because it was next to them at the time of the initial crash, the deputy explained.
The officer reported that one person was in critical condition and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Both lanes are closed as officials investigate.
Authorities are asking the public to find alternative routes.
