ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Rockford Park District celebrated the 50th anniversary of its iconic “Sun Singer” logo Tuesday, honoring its creator, Eugene Holmberg, and his daughters at a special event.

The “Sun Singer” logo, adopted on August 12, 1975, was designed by Eugene Holmberg and has become a symbol of the Forest City. Originally, the park district’s logo featured a picnic table with trees in the background before Holmberg’s design was chosen.

To commemorate the anniversary, banners featuring the “Sun Singer” were displayed at the Webbs-Norman Center, at 401 S Main Street, and along North 2nd Street. Additionally, the Nicholas Conservatory and Gardens was illuminated in orange and yellow, reflecting the colors of the logo.

During the event, park district board members recognized Eugene Holmberg’s contributions by honoring his two daughters.
