Heber City Police Department reported that Utah Highway Patrol used Total Station mapping to help with documenting the crash scene
Total Station Mapping
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, Total Station Mapping is a form of professional surveying of an area. Total Station equipment “captures and plots points of interest in reference to itself” and can be “used to create scaled diagrams of the roadway and the crash.”
In fatal or serious injury crashes, Total Station Mapping can help provide a map of the crime scene that helps UHP’s reconstruction team determine what happened.
Additionally, Total Station Mapping can “provide answers to the families that have lost a loved one.”
