KY couple arrested during traffic stop allegedly tried to transport drugs to Ashland City

ASHLAND CITY, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Ashland City Police Department recently intercepted a sizeable drug shipment of mushrooms, vapes and THC gummies.

Authorities said the incident began as a traffic stop for speeding, but when officers smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, it quickly became a much larger investigation.

Bodycam video obtained by News 2 shows the moment law enforcement stopped the vehicle and the subsequent interview with the suspects.

“We are going to get you guys out one at a time, so ma’am, place your hands up on the steering wheel,” an officer could be heard advising one of the occupants in the vehicle.

When police asked Abigail Miller if she had been smoking, the Oak Grove woman allegedly told them that she had.

“Did you guys have any marijuana in the car? Because he smelled the odor of it,” asked one officer.

“Yeah, we smoked earlier today, but that was it,” replied Miller.

After searching the vehicle, officers reported they found a “table load” of contraband, including more than a half pound of marijuana, two ounces of mushrooms, 14 bags of THC gummies and three boxes of mushroom gummies.

In addition, a search of the back seat led to the discovery of even more contraband, such as THC, mushroom chocolate bars, THC vapes and more than $3,500 in cash.

Sgt. Alexis Duncan with the ACPD told News 2 that the traffic stop illustrated good police intuition.

“Like I said, our officers did a great job being proactive and looking beyond the stop and writing a speeding ticket,” she said.

According to officials, a handgun was also found in the vehicle. As seen on video, the passenger—identified as 27-year-old Alejandro Hermosillo—told an officer,” Do you want me to show you where the gun is at? It’s her gun.”

Investigators said it is believed that the Oak Grove couple were transporting the drugs to an apartment complex in Ashland City.

After finding bricks of marijuana in a duffel bag, an officer could then be heard asking the suspects, “Who is going to claim it? We we found, not only that, but you told us where it is, that’s a felony amount, I can tell you right off the cuff. You also have a bunch of THC gummies, THC vapes, stuff like that.”

Both Miller and Hermosillo have since been released from jail on bond. However, the duo is expected to appear in court in December.

Ashland City police confirmed that the incident is under investigation. No additional information was immediately released.
