CentraCare moves to eliminate more than 500 positions across 44 locations

CentraCare is downsizing by more than 500 positions, a move the St. Cloud-based health care provider says is necessary to stay on top of “significant external pressures.”

In a statement, the company said the layoffs will impact approximately 535 employees across 44 locations. About 70% of those employees work in administrative and support positions, with the remaining 30% in patient care.

“CentraCare is responding to significant external pressures including rising costs and reimbursement rates that no longer cover the true cost of care,” a CentraCare spokesperson said. “To safeguard the organization’s stability and to continue delivering high-quality care, we have made difficult but necessary staffing adjustments.”

CentraCare said the employees receiving layoff notices could stay with the company if they choose to pursue one of about 350 vacant positions elsewhere in the organization.

The company did not say when the staffing cuts would take effect.
