Center of the Arts Community Theatre, East Side Park forums coming Aug. 14, 18

Ala.
– Cullman Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism will host two community forums this month: one for the Center of the Arts Community Theatre on Aug. 14, and one for East Side Park on Aug. 18.

CPRST Executive Director Nathan Anderson said the forums are designed to be open, casual listening sessions — not formal presentations.

“Each event begins with a brief project overview, followed by open dialog, interactive feedback stations and the opportunity for residents to directly shape two major investments in our community,” Anderson said. ”These forums are part of a larger commitment to co-creating public spaces with our residents, not just for them. Whether you’re passionate about the arts, parks, youth programs, or just want to stay informed, your voice matters.”

Anderson said that at the Community Theatre forum, attendees will explore ideas for programming, performance needs and how the renovated space can serve all ages — from children’s arts education to adult productions, music and more.

At the East Side Park forum, residents will get to review three proposed playground designs created in response to feedback from the first forum, which was held in July. This is the second public input session, and CPRST is now focused on finalizing a design that fits the neighborhood’s vision.

“Nothing at all is required to attend; just bring your ideas,” Anderson said. “These are open, come-and-go events for anyone who wants to participate — no RSVP or prior involvement required.”

He said the East Side Park project is a direct result of community feedback asking for renewed investment in green space on the east side of town.

“We’re now in the design phase, building on ideas shared during earlier conversations and surveys,” Anderson said. “The forum is the perfect next step. After this, we’ll move into final design and bidding. For residents who want to stay connected, we encourage following us on social media for updates or signing up for the project email list at the event.”

At the Aug. 14 meeting, playground designers will present design options based on feedback from the first forum for the community to review.

“Per the Community Theatre, all ages are invited,” Anderson said. “The new cultural arts venue is being designed to serve the entire community — from youth arts programs and community theater to adult choirs, band performances and local concerts. While some programs may include modest participation fees, our goal is to keep the arts accessible. We’ll be pursuing grants, sponsorships and scholarship support to ensure no one is turned away due to cost.”

Anderson said the Community Theatre forum will be the first of several meetings and will primarily serve as a listening session.
