Simpson beat out Austin Mack and freshman Keelon Russell to be the Crimson Tide’s QB1. He’s the most experienced out of the group, having made an appearance in 15 games. The redshirt junior has been at Alabama since 2022.
Simpson’s most significant appearance thus far in his career came in 2023 when he came in the game for Tyler Buchner at USF. In that game, he finished 5-of-9 for 73 yards and added a rushing touchdown. He helped lead Alabama to a win on the road over the Bulls, 17-3.
Alabama finished last season 9-4 and experienced inconsistent play from the quarterback position. The Crimson Tide will feature an experienced offensive line and a deep receiver room that features Ryan Williams, Isaiah Horton and Germie Bernard.
Bama’s running back room is also looking to improve from last year, with Jam Miller leading the pack. In Simpson’s career, he’s thrown for 381 yards and rushed for 130 yards with three touchdowns.
Alabama opens the season on the road against Florida State. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on ABC.
