CHARLES COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — First responders rescued an 11-year-old girl from deep in the woods Friday afternoon after she reportedly suffered a head injury while at camp.

It all started around noon on Aug. 8, when Charles County’s Public Safety Answering Point received a call 911 call for the report of an 11-year-old girl who suffered a “head injury after someone landed on top of her” during a camp activity at Purse State Park, according to Michelle Lilly, director of the county’s Department of Emergency Services.

Responders learned that the girl was injured on a trail in the park that was not accessible by vehicle, so an ATV from the Nanjemoy Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to rescue her.

Upon removing the girl from the woods, an ambulance took her to the Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata for treatment.

Officials could not disclose what camp the girl was participating in or the status of her injuries.
