JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Cleanup crews are working to bring a troubled South Jackson apartment complex back to life.

Landscapers began cutting grass and clearing debris at New Chapel Ridge on August 11. The crew expects the job to take several days.

Chapel Ridge Holdings LLC bought the complex and wants the property and office ready within two weeks.

In June 2025, the apartment complex was declared a public nuisance. This occurred after mountains of trash piled up at the apartment complex when officials said the owners stopped paying their trash bill.

City Attorney Drew Martin said the new owners must join the city’s Rental Registration Program, so the property can be inspected and maintained.

“It gives the level of accountability for the owner as well as a level of accountability to our city to say, ‘You’re going to come, you’re going to run a business in the cCty of Jackson. These are the expectations that you have to meet to run a business here in the City of Jackson. If you can’t meet these expectations to run a business here in our city, these are the consequences,’” said State Rep. Grace Butler-Washington (D-District 69).

Chapel Ridge Holdings LLC expects renovations to take three to four months.
