CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — If you’re flying in or out of Charlotte Douglas International Airport on Monday, prepare to possibly wait around. Pop-up thunderstorms and steady rain across the area are causing delays for hundreds of travelers.

As of Monday afternoon, 379 flights at CLT have been delayed, with at least one cancellation reported, according to data from FlightAware.

The FAA said weather is playing a major role, especially with heavy rain and quick-moving storms impacting flights across the Southeast, including in Atlanta and parts of Florida.

Locally, the weather has been anything but friendly to fliers. After a stormy weekend, another round of showers and thunderstorms is sweeping through the Charlotte area. This pattern will continue through midweek, with the chance for 1.5 to 2.5 inches of rain before things dry out.

If you’re heading to the airport, check your flight status before leaving home and allow extra time for potential delays.
