Lanett Police: Man shot and killed Saturday night during gathering, suspect not in custody

LANETT, Ala. (WRBL) – A 31-year-old Lanett man is dead following a late-night shooting on Saturday Aug. 9, 2025. A suspect is not in custody.

Investigators say at approximately 10:30 p.m., Lanett Police responded to the 300 block of North 12th Court after reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they encountered a large crowd in the area and located the victim, identified as Alexander Stevenson, suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso.

Stevenson was transported to East Alabama Medical Center-Lanier, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Lanett Police Department, with assistance from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, is investigating.
