Former Sen. Bob Casey joins Pennsylvania law firm

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (WHTM) — Former U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) will be joining the law firm, Dilworth Paxson, in an ‘Of Counsel’ role starting next month.

According to Dilworth Paxson, starting on September 1, Casey will begin serving out of their Philadelphia office, where he will serve in an Of Counsel role in the Corporate and Business practice group.

Casey will be providing clients with specific, actionable advice to maximize opportunities and be well-positioned to achieve their goals.

“Dilworth Paxson’s values reflect my belief that the law is not just a profession, it is a public trust,” Casey said. “Lawyers have a responsibility to zealously represent their clients, to stand up for the rule of law, and to help preserve the independence of our judiciary. I look forward to the opportunity to bring my decades of experience in statewide public office and my deep knowledge of how to navigate the inner workings of state and federal governments to achieve success for Dilworth Paxson clients.”

This isn’t the first time Casey has worked with Dilworth Paxson – he actually worked at the firm as a paralegal before attending law school.

Altogether, Casey served two terms as Pennsylvania’s elected Auditor General, and later as a State Treasurer.

He would go on to be elected to the U.S. Senate in 2006 and continued serving as Pennsylvania’s Senator before losing his 2024 reelection bid to Dave McCormick by less than a quarter of a percent.

Casey became the only Democrat thus far in Pennsylvania history to win three terms in the U.S. Senate.

“Dilworth is honored to welcome Senator Bob Casey to the firm. Bob is a powerful advocate with intimate knowledge of state and federal governments. He will continue our long tradition of civic engagement and be a tremendous resource for our clients,” Chairman of Dilworth Paxson, Lawrence McMichael said. “As a three-term U.S. Senator and state official, Bob understands how policies are shaped, as well as which strategic levers can most effectively drive client success at the state, federal and international levels.”

This next move for Casey comes just one week after it was announced that he would be joining The University of Scranton as a Leahy Distinguished Fellow in Public Service.

The University had previously said that Casey’s role will “engage the Scrantonian and three-term senator across several aspects of campus life,” including mentorship with students interested in public service careers.
