Dixon resident faces charges for armed violence and drugs after Amboy arrest

AMBOY, Ill. (WTVO) — Police have charged Amont Vinson, 20, with armed violence and drug possession charges after a weekend arrest in Amboy following a car crash.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the scene of the single-vehicle crash on Route 52 near Water Street around 5:47 a.m. on Sunday, August 10th.

Police said a strong odor of cannabis and alcohol were present on the driver.

A search of the car revealed a quanity of cannabis, controlled substances, and a gun.

Vinson, of Dixon, was charged with armed violence, possession of a controlled substance, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of cannabis, possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owners Identification, driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license, driving without car insurance, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

He was booked into the Lee County Jail and then released under provisions of Illinois’ Pretrial Fairness Act, with a notice to appear at a future court date.
