Although the case has been unsolved for nearly five decades, authorities allegedly received a tip about the possible location of the victim’s remains, prompting them to revisit the investigation. Shortly after the tip was sent in, recovery efforts began, but authorities had not released further details until today.
Standing before reporters this morning, Sheriff Leroy Martin shared the findings from their recent search. On August 5, 2025, investigators began searching in Bussey, Arkansas, where they brought cadaver dogs.
Former Sheriff Mike Loe, who served as the lead investigator when the case first opened, was present at both today’s press conference and the search. One of the main purposes of the press conference was to address and debunk the rumors and speculation that have surrounded the case.
Among the rumors addressed were claims that a potential suspect, Jimmy Watson, had confessed to the crime. Former sheriff Mike Loe responded directly, stating, “I can assure you Jimmy Watson has nothing to do with this.” Authorities also debunked speculations that three bodies had been recovered from the scene, confirming at the press conference that this information is false. Mike Loe also shared that the search had not been launched based on a tip.
One major question during the press conference was whether anything related to Bobo’s remains or a potential suspect had been found. While Mike Loe was limited on what he could disclose, he stated that nothing of significant value was recovered. However, he noted that the search did help authorities learn something that could potentially advance the investigation. As of now, no items have been sent for DNA testing.
Both Mike Loe and Sheriff Leroy Martin repeatedly emphasized during the press conference that ongoing rumors have harmed the investigation. They explained false information that has led investigators down “rabbit holes” and taken away time from other leads.
When asked if there is a timeline for the remainder of the reopened investigation, Mike Loe responded, “You can’t put a time frame on this case,” adding that the team will continue to investigate to help bring closure to the family and all those involved. Before concluding the press conference, Loe reflected on the personal toll the case has taken, sharing that it has been especially difficult for him because he was once a classmate of the victim. He also noted that the case has taught him valuable lessons over the years.
