A North Dakota man is facing charges for allegedly trying to rob a Dollar General and charging an officer with a knife in Walker last week.
Dillon Ray Kloehn, 31, of Fargo, N.D., was charged Monday with one count each of first-degree assault, second-degree assault, first-degree attempted robbery, second-degree assault and fleeing a peace officer.
Around 6:45 p.m. on Aug. 8, Officer Kent Cleveland from the Walker Police Department responded to a report that a person with a knife went into a Dollar General store, according to the criminal complaint.
A deputy from Cass County, who responded to the scene around 7 p.m., spoke to an employee in the Dollar General. The employee told the deputy that Kloehn tried to jump over the counter at her while holding a knife, the complaint states.
A witness at the scene told the deputy that Kloehn appeared intoxicated and was not listening to Officer Cleveland when he told him to drop the knife, the complaint states.
The witness added that Officer Cleveland told Kloehn to get on the ground multiple times, and Kloehn repeatedly yelled that he was going to stab or cut Officer Cleveland, according to court records.
Surveillance footage from the scene then shows Kloehn charging at Officer Cleveland, who shot him one time. The footage goes on to show Kloehn getting up and running out of the camera’s view.

Officer Cleveland followed Kloehn and took him into custody, the complaint added.
Kloehn is due in court on Aug. 25 for an initial appearance.
