Bailey Martin, spokesperson for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (MDPS), said the inmate was found deceased on August 10, 2025.

The Rankin County coroner identified the woman as Sidney Simmons, 27. Her body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office to determine her cause of death.

The death is under investigation by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI). The investigation is ongoing.
