Teenager in police custody after stealing and crashing a bus, police say

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — A 14-year-old is in custody after stealing and crashing a school bus, authorities say.

According to the Columbus Police Department, officers were called to a building in the 1400 block of Shepard Drive on Sunday afternoon. Reports say damage to the building did occur.

A statement released by the Muscogee County School District says:

“The Muscogee County School District (MCSD) is aware of the incident involving the theft of a district vehicle on August 10, 2025. The individual involved is not a student of MCSD. This matter is being handled as a CPD case. In partnership with CPD, MCSD Police will be charging the individual with Theft By Taking (motor vehicle).”

Due to the age of the suspect, limited details are available. Check back with WRBL News 3 for updates on this ongoing situation.
