From personalized sessions to drop-in help, the following programs hope to ensure that students have the tools they need to thrive, no matter the circumstances.
Tutoring Chicago offers free one-on-one tutoring for students in grades 1 through 12. Sessions are held weekly with the same volunteer tutor, either in person or online, allowing for consistent academic support.
Evergreen Learning Chicago focuses on helping middle school students in grades 4 through 8. The free, online, volunteer-led program supports students who lack resources, including help with selective enrollment preparation.
The Chicago Public Library provides multiple tutoring options.
Through its Brainfuse program, students can connect with a tutor online daily from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m., either from the library or at home with a library card. Tutoring is available in English and Spanish and covers subjects such as writing, math, science, social studies, and language learning.
The library’s Teacher in the Library program also offers in-person or online help from certified teachers during the school year.
Chicago Lights Tutoring pairs students with adult mentors for weekly sessions held Mondays through Wednesdays, both in person and online. The program not only supports academic work but also helps with career preparation and college planning.
