FPD: Fishers man groped woman going for an evening walk

FISHERS, Ind. — A Fishers man was booked into jail on a sexual battery charge after allegedly groping a woman who was out for her evening walk.

Daniel Nevins II was arrested Sunday and booked into the Hamilton County Jail on one count of felony sexual battery. Bond has not yet been set in his case and Nevins is still being held in custody as of 3 p.m. Monday.

The charge against Nevins stems from an alleged groping that occurred Sunday night in the Grey Eagle neighborhood of Fishers.

Fishers police were called around 9:20 p.m. Sunday to a home in the area on report of a sexual battery. The victim said she was on her evening walk through the neighborhood when a slender man with dark hair and facial hair ran up behind her.

The woman told police the man “grabbed her buttocks with both of his hands,” which caused her to stop walking. The man reportedly continued to grope her until she turned around and yelled, “Hey.” The man then ran away from her and was not around when police arrived.

The victim said she did not know or recognize the man, nor did she permit him to touch her. She said a neighbor who was walking his dog witnessed the incident and came over to make sure she was okay before calling the police.

While police were still on scene around 10 p.m., an officer saw a man walking on the sidewalk who matched the suspect’s description. The man was reportedly “sweating profusely” and had a “jittery demeanor.”

When asked if he had been walking all night, the man said he was returning to a home in a nearby subdivision. The man, later identified as Nevins, said he was so sweaty “from walking and the weather.”

Nevins was detained by officers and later positively identified by both the victim and the neighbor who witnessed the alleged groping. When interviewed by officers, Nevins said he was in the area to buy cigarettes and denied having interacted with any pedestrians.

Nevins was later placed under arrest and booked into the Hamilton County Jail for sexual battery – a level 6 felony – and misdemeanor battery. An initial hearing in his case was held Monday in Hamilton Superior Court 6, where a no-contact order was issued.
