As previously reported by KOIN 6 News, the missing crewmember was working onboard the 40-foot Das Bug fishing vessel when it capsized around 4 p.m. Aug. 10 near the Yaquina Bay Jetty.
“Suspending a search without finding the person you have been looking for is always one of the most difficult decisions we have to make,” said Lt. Cmdr. Jacqueline Hunnicutt, search and rescue mission coordinator for the Coast Guard Sector Columbia River.
“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” Hunnicutt said.
The other three crewmembers were rescued Sunday and treated for hypothermia at Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital.
Rescuers from Coast Guard Station Yaquina Bay were assisted by Coast Guard Air Station North Bend. They searched for eight hours and covered 54 square miles amid 7-foot swells and 13-knot winds before suspending the search at 10:15 a.m. on Monday.
The name of the missing person has not yet been released.
