Cass County Sheriff’s office respond to drowning on Cass Lake

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office said a 41-year-old man has died in an apparent drowning incident on Cass Lake Saturday.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, they received a 911 report around 5:50 p.m. Saturday of a person who was in the water and had not resurfaced on Cass Lake.

A 41-year-old man from North Dakota had reportedly left a pontoon on Cass Lake to work on a boat motor problem, but did not resurface, the sheriff’s office said.

Juveniles who were on the boat attempted to throw the man a life jacket, and the boat began to drift due to high winds.

The boat was later intercepted by other boaters on Cass Lake, and the 911 call was placed.

The Sheriff’s Office said they found the man around 7:51 p.m. in the water without a life jacket. He was pronounced dead.

The sheriff’s office said the incident remains under investigation and an autopsy is scheduled with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office.
