Vicki Foster, highest ranking woman in CMPD history, laid to rest in Charlotte
CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Family, friends, and fellow officers gathered in Charlotte on Friday to honor the life and legacy of Vicki Foster, the highest-ranking woman in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department history.

Foster passed away on July 25, 2025,

at age 56, after a recent illness.

Her funeral was held Friday morning, August 8, at First Baptist Charlotte, following a public viewing and family visitation. The service reflected on her groundbreaking career, her dedication to public service, and the countless lives she touched.

She was later entombed at Gethsemane Cemetery and Memorial Gardens.

Foster made history in 2017 when she was promoted to assistant chief, becoming the highest-ranking woman ever at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. She retired in 2020 and later worked in consulting and real estate. A UNC Charlotte graduate, she had once planned to become a psychiatrist before choosing a path in law enforcement.
