Two hospitalized following overnight shootings in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Two people have been hospitalized following separate shootings that happened overnight in New Orleans between Friday, Aug. 8, and Saturday, Aug. 9.

According to the New Orleans Police Department, police began investigating the first shooting, which happened at the intersection of Treme and St. Phillip streets, at 9:27 p.m.

Investigators say that two men were in a physical altercation with each other when later, one of the men saw the other walking with a friend and proceeded to start another fight. During the fight, the friend reportedly pulled a gun out and shot the man who started the fight.

The victim was found by police on scene with at least one gunshot wound to the body. He was taken by NOEMS to a local hospital for treatment.

The second shooting, which happened around the 7800 block of Almonaster Avenue in New Orleans East, was reported around 2:39 a.m.

Investigation shows that at least one man had been shot at least once. He was brought by private conveyance to a hospital where at last word he was receiving treatment.
