MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — A man was sentenced to prison for robbery and kidnapping on Wednesday.

A Montgomery County Circuit Court judge sentenced 42-year-old Luis Davila-Marerro to 35 years in prison. He was found guilty of two counts of kidnapping, one count of carjacking, and one count of robbery.

Davila-Marerro was convicted of the charges on Feb. 19.

The 35-year sentence stems from an incident that happened on July 6, 2024. At around 9 p.m., a woman who was working for a taxi service dedicated to Spanish-speaking customers got a call from Davila-Marerro, whom she had driven for several times already.

Instead of contacting the business, Davila-Marerro reached out to her directly and told her that he needed a ride.

The woman picked him up along the 18000 Block of Contour Road in Montgomery Village. She also had her 12-year-old son in the car.

Davila-Marerro began instructing the woman on where to drive. They drove several hours into Howard County and then back to Montgomery Village while he threatened her and her son.

He demanded cash and had both the woman’s and her son’s cell phones.

The woman only had a few dollars in cash. Davila-Marerro accessed her bank app on her phone and transferred $480 to himself.

Officials said he started talking on the phone to someone, asking what he should do with the woman and her son, causing the pair to fear for their lives.

Davila-Marerro got out of the woman’s car at 1 a.m. in Montgomery Village.
