Chicago police say the crash unfolded just before 3:30 a.m. in the 5400 block of South Kedzie Avenue in Gage Park.
According to officers, the victim, a 22-year-old man, was walking in a crosswalk in the area when a gray vehicle heading northbound disregarded a traffic signal and struck the man.
Following the crash, the individual responsible fled the scene in an unknown direction.
Officers said the victim suffered significant injuries in the crash and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Officers say they are now searching for the driver involved in the crash and no arrests have been made.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
