Tropical worries: No short-term changes since yesterday in the tropics. The National Hurricane Center continues to watch three tropical disturbances in the Atlantic. There is a small chance that a disturbance off the East Coast will develop into a depression. A second disturbance out in the Atlantic has the best chance of developing. Neither of these systems will likely threaten the US coast.
There is a rather strong tropical wave that is now coming off of Africa. Both the EURO and GFS show that this system could threaten the Gulf in a few weeks. Above is a map showing the potential location of what could be a hurricane two weeks from today. There are still great differences in the models from run to run. Yesterday, the EURO showed this system located over NW Georgia two weeks out. Today, the EURO has the system two weeks from today located off the coast of New Jersey. Yesterday, the GFS had the system off the coast of North Carolina two weeks out. Today, the GFS shows a possible hurricane over Houston two weeks from today. The moral of the story remains that it looks promising that we could see a hurricane threaten the US coast in a few weeks. What part of the coast remains a mystery? Stay tuned!
Heat worries: Our biggest concern here at home in the next ten days will be the heat and humidity, with daytime temperatures settling into the mid to upper 90s. The heat index will be approaching 105 degrees at times.
Severe weather worries: Even though a few scattered storms will be possible on Monday and Tuesday, severe weather will likely not be an issue for the ArkLaTex. It appears that much of the area could stay dry from now through most of next week. WPC indicates that all of the ArkLaTex will receive 1/10” or less, although individual models show more is possible.
Weather Worry Index for the next 10 days: 2 out of 10: Today’s WWI for the next ten days will remain at 2 out of 10. Just remember how our August heat can sneak up on you.
