Brandon and Stacey Kelly are accused of depriving their child, Vyolet Kelley, of “adequate nourishment and medical care,” while living at Fort Stewart a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office Southern District of Georgia said.
A federal court unsealed the indictment, which charges 29-year-old Brandon and 26-year-old Stacey with felony murder and two counts of second-degree murder. If convicted, they could potentially face penalties up to life in prison.
The charges alleged that Vyolet starved to death while living at the Fort Stewart Military Reservation.
Brandon was an enlisted soldier, the U.S. Attorney’s Office spokesperson said.
“The allegations in this case are heartbreaking on many levels. Our office will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to pursue justice,” Acting United States Attorney Tara M. Lyons said.
The case was investigated by the United States Army Criminal Investigative Division and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Timothy P. Dean and E. Greg Gilluly, Jr.
