Historic second-place $4.6 million Mega Millions ticket sold in Tarzana

One lucky player is more than $4.6 million richer after a Mega Millions ticket sold in Los Angeles County matched the first five numbers in Friday night’s drawing, California Lottery officials said.

The historic ticket, worth $4,607,223, was sold at Spirits World Liquor on Burbank Boulevard in Tarzana. The winning numbers were 2, 6, 8, 14, 49 and Mega Number 12. No one matched all six numbers (five plus the Mega Ball) to win the jackpot, so it grows to an estimated $182 million for Tuesday night’s drawing.

Lottery officials said the $4.6 million payout is the second-largest second-place Mega Millions win in California in the past decade. An even bigger second-place ticket, worth more than $7.7 million, was sold in June 2022.

The California Lottery will not know who the winner is until they file a claim, which, as of Saturday, has not been done. Winners can download claim forms on the Lottery’s website or pick them up at retail locations.

Spirits World Liquor is located at 18523 Burbank Blvd. in Tarzana, according to the Lottery.

Mega Millions tickets cost $5 to play in California. Approximately $2 from every ticket sold supports the Lottery’s mission of raising supplemental funding for public schools, officials said.

“Raising supplemental funding for public education is the sole mission of the California Lottery,” officials said.
