Carolina Panthers and Cleveland Browns fans flooded South Mint Street Friday evening ahead of their first preseason matchup at Bank of America Stadium.
“I feel like it’s a completely different era we kind of miss. It kind of feels like 2015 Fancies or Cam Newton. We’re just excited to have something to compete for in a city,” said Robert Coleman Jr.
Fans have been taking in all of the energy from clips on social media of the Panthers’ new offense with Tetairoa McMillan and Jimmy Horn Jr., along with Jaycee Horn on the other side of the ball.
“I think Jimmy has been doing a phenomenal job in just like Sheduer. Shedeur is working with what he has to work with,” said Tywana Estell, who drove from Atlanta.
“What I like about it, it gives you a glimpse of possible possibilities of what it could be like, especially Jimmy Horn, and with these new guys, man, it’s going to be awesome,” said Robert Coleman Jr.
Ticket prices ranged from $50 to more than $300. Last season, fans entered the season optimistic. The team started 2024 with losses before showing promise late in the season.
Fans say this year’s draft picks reignited their hopes for a decent season or better.
“Hopefully, hopefully good, hopefully better than last year,” said Reese Cameron.
“I feel like it’s a new energy, a new era, a new era with the young guns coming up. And I think it’s just their time. I feel like they’re playing it a lot of season early on in their careers, and it’s time for them to see some of the benefits,” Coleman explained.
